FAQ
What is GetScientific?
GetScientific is an educational site with a strong social element mixed in. College students understand the importance of group studying and sharing of good quality resources. GetScientific helps with the organization of study materials and aids posted by students or professors and provides an area for discussion and ratings. More about us here.
Why should I use Getscientific?
We built GetScientific with three different user groups in mind: students, professors, and polymaths.
GetScientific for students
One of the best ways to study is through many different sources. This is because every source explains a topic a little different which, in the end, helps you retain the information much better. GetScientific helps you can find many different explanations on any hard science topic you need.
Most of the time procrastination bites. The “night before the exam reviews” are beneficial but what happens when your notes and your textbook just aren't cutting it? GetScientific makes it easy to find short reviews on most topics.
GetScientific for professors
GetScientific provides is a great place to start if you're looking for learning aids or outstanding material to break up the class. From videos to interactive demos to handouts, we're collecting resources on just about every hard science topic.
To help make this community even better, we encourage you to post your own material for the community. Do you have a set of questions you use in class? Maybe an online resource you put together for your students? Submit it to our site students and professors around the world to use!
GetScientific for the polymath
We know all about you... hey, you're one of us! Some people just can't stop learning and the internet has made this noble hobby much easier than before. Or has it?
We found that usable hard science resources were buried in between product sites, unhelpful forum posts, and other unrelated information. Finding relevant, accurate information was difficult and, at times, made this pursuit frustrating and arduous.
GetScientific gives you a place to not find more information but share the materials you've already found. We want to be a resource for people at all levels of learning and education so help us fill out the site with great resources and rate what you see to make sure the best stuff rises to the top!
How do I get started?
That's a great question so we made a page just for you!
What's the difference between Notes and Links?
We have two types of learning resources on this site: Notes and Links. The main difference is that Links have a URL (link) to another page on the web while Notes are content stored here on our server.
If you're submitting a page from another web site, you'll want to give us a direct address to that page or site (starting with “http://”) and give us a good description for what you'll find there.
If you have notes or learning materials you created or have permission to distribute, you'll want to submit a Note and add your content right in the submission form. We like content right there on the page but we also allow you to upload documents like PDFs.
I submitted a Link/Note already but I don't see it on the site. What happened?
Everything submitted on the site comes to a moderation queue for use to check and approve. This is so we can both check the relevancy of what's being submitted and keep our site free from spam.
At the moment, GetScientific is a 2-man part-time operation so things can get a little behind. You should receive an email when your content goes live so you can see it on the site and share it with your colleagues.
If it's been a few days and you submitted something to the site that you thought was relevant, go ahead and shoot us an email at info@getscientific.com and we'll take a look.
I placed a comment on a Link/Note but I don't see it. Did I do something wrong?
As long as you saw the confirmation message near the top of the page that the comment was submitted, you should be fine. Spam is rampant everywhere and we need to approve each comment that comes through the system to make sure it's on-topic.
That said, if your comment was way off-topic, abusive, or generally unhelpful, we may have chosen not to publish it. It's our goal to keep GetScientific as friendly and helpful as possible and we do this through fairly strict moderation.
As always, if you think we made a mistake, feel free to contact us at info@getscientific.com and we'll take another look.
I have a website, group, or program that promotes science education. How can we help each other?
I have no idea but let's figure out a way! We're always looking for other sites, communities, groups, schools, and individuals to collaborate with in any way. This site was built by two people who have a strong affection for science and academia in general (we're both chemistry graduates... find out more).
Contact us at info@getscientific.com and let us know what you have in mind! We're always looking to cross-promote and help like-minded folks!
My school, organization, or company would like to advertise on your site. Who do we contact?
First of all, thanks in advance for your interest! We have a page that explains a little better what we can do.
